On behalf of the Scholarship Committee – Katie Roslonek, Keith Blackwell,
Marge Frackleton, Tom Mottur, and Tracey Zeckhausen — we want to thank
Joan Potter and Janet Bache for their help with the management of the
financial side, Sam for helping with new member applicants, Marge for her
collection of “snippets” from the wonderful essays we received, Michelle who
helps us keep it all together – publishing in Newman News, creating
application forms, forwarding essays, creating the program, and mailing out
all the documentation to the recipients, and the donors who made this all
possible.
This year, we had four new applicants and eight returning applicants. The new applicants were asked to speak about how Newman has been a part of their lives and the others selected from three topics:
- What could “church” do to speak to you and your generation and help provide ways for you to engage?;
- How have possible funding cuts impacted you, your institution, or your possible education pursuits?;
- and, Tell us about a special trip or place that you would want to recommend someone else visit.
The essays were a joy to read and we encouraged people to connect with the students to learn more.
Congratulations to our students!
