Worship

God is Still Speaking

Our worship service is a time of engaging with and listening to a still-speaking god in our midst. Services include a welcome and announcements, hymns and anthems, scripture reading and sermon, prayers and benediction. Listen to past sermons>>

On the first Sunday of each month, we celebrate Holy Communion — remembering the last supper of Jesus and his disciples. We continue this ancient ritual where all are welcome to the Table.

We also invite financial and other tangible support for the continued vitality of the church and its missions — the generous skills and gifts of a community striving to live in the tradition of Jesus.

Online Worship

We livestream our weekly Sunday service on YouTube and Facebook. Our services are recorded, too, which means you can watch our services live or go back to enjoy anytime in the future!

What Time is Sunday Worship?

10:00 a.m. Arrive a few minutes early to enjoy the peace of the sanctuary and chat with other community members.

Where Should I Sit?

Any pew is available for you. Some first-timers enjoy sitting in the back, or in the balcony for their first services.

What Should I Wear?

Please wear what is comfortable for you. There is no set style for worship: some folks will dress up; others will dress casually.

How Do I Enter the Church?

Enter the church through the main double doors nearest the corner of Newman and Pawtucket Avenues, or use the ramp in the church parking lot for elevator access.

Is There Child Care?

Yes. There is professional nursery care for infants and toddlers under five years old that starts before worship begins. And there is church school for K through 8th graders that begins soon after the the start of worship. Children of all ages are also welcome to stay in worship!

Can I Take Communion?

Yes. All people who find connection and spiritual renewal through this connection with Christ in the celebration of the sacrament are invited to receive the bread and cup of communion. The communion table is God’s table, and you are child of God. We celebrate communion once a month on the first Sunday of the month.

Is There Singing?

We sing congregational hymns every Sunday from a black hymnal (the New Century Hymnal) and a blue hymnal (the Pilgrim Hymnal). Whether you read music or not, we invite you to make a joyful noise with us!

How Do I Connect With People?

Please fill out one of the information cards in the pew and put it in the offering plate when it is passed toward the end of worship. A minister will email or call you during the week after worship. Please also join for a time of coffee and conversation after worship in the church hall where church members will be happy to talk with you about community life.

How Do I Become A Church Member?

Newman Church holds informal new membership classes four times a year. These meetings are for people to learn more about the Newman Community, and there is no expectation that membership will follow — but we’re glad for anyone to learn more about where their faith journey might align with the life of Newman Church. Contact the church office to sign up for the next meeting>>
