(#7) Becoming Christians BIble Study

We’re approaching the third week of Easter. As we go on, we’re “panning out” from the tight frame of the events of Easter and Holy Week — we’re starting to see a bigger picture of Jesus sending out apostles and calling in new followers. Shaping the beliefs and actions of these new followers is a key topics in Paul’s Galatians letter!:

Reading:

  • Read Galatians 3:23-29
    • (If you want to read all of Galatians chapters 3 and 4, please do! But I think we’re going to focus on the ideas of these seven verses at the end of chapter 3 since they summarize the major ideas of these chapters).
  • Paul writes about “law” and “faith,” but he’s really asking: “Who is God and how should I (follower of Jesus) relate to God?”
    • Rachel Held Evans wrote a children’s book on this topic called What is God Like? Let’s read this book and see what we think.
      • (This book has been sent to Bible Study participants. Contact the church office for a copy of this book).

Things to Consider:

  • How does Rachel’s multifaceted depiction of God in her children’s book help us think about Paul’s concept that we “are children of God through faith”?
