Newman’s church doors will be open this Friday, June 19th from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. to remember this day, now a federal holiday, in our nation’s complicated history. It will be a low-key event – just a time to perhaps listen to a poem, sing a song or two or simply to sit in silence.
As a reminder >> Juneteenth honors June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Texas were finally informed that they were free. The order for the state came two and a half years AFTER the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation was signed by President Abraham Lincoln.
Drop in to say hello!
