15th Sunday After Pentecost

Hello friends,

The Bible has a sense of humor.

This week we’re exploring Jacob the trickster, fleeing the fallout of his trickery by running for safety into the arms of another trickster, his uncle Laban. You can read the story here>>

Imperfect though he is, Jacob finds he is worthy of God’s love, not matter where fate and circumstance seem to take him. Running away from home helps Jacob draw closer to God.

God goes with Jacob wherever Jacob goes.

Jacob says, “surely the Lord is in this place — and I did not know it. How awesome is this place. This is the house of God, and the gate of heaven.”

This week in worship we will draw close to God in the sanctuary, no matter where we are on our own life’s journey.

We will raise up our voices in song (“We Are Climbing Jacob’s Ladder”) and explore what it means to take part in God’s covenant in our own time.

Jacob finds a big family out there in his wilderness wandering. I look forward to gathering as one beloved community for our own exploration of this text.

Traveling together,

Sam
